2008 Evansville Boat Show Pix are here!

History

Over 30 years ago, Lloyd Burns was a professional boat racer with the need for speed and the knowledge of how to achieve it.

In 1971 he opened his first boat shop on Harmony Way in Evansville’s West side. After 10 years of success, he moved the business to its current location on 1901 Waterworks Road on the Ohio River.

Lloyd has sold a lot of different boats over the years, but to satisfy his need for speed, Baja was the boat for him. He was their first dealer when the company was called Cobra and had only one model.

Lloyd started out as the fastest man on the Ohio, with a special gift for speed rigging.

On Saturday, April 21, 2007, Lloyd Burns got in the cockpit of his drag boat like he had done a thousand times before. Alone on the water he looked forward to a good practice.

But something went wrong. There was a horrible accident. Lloyd and his boat were destroyed and lost to us forever.

Lloyd was buried on April 25, 2007 and those he left behind still try to figure out what to do without this great and good man.

In time, word spread that if you wanted to go fast, go talk to Lloyd Burns. Before he knew it, he was in the boat business.

Baja has always been all about speed. Minimize weight, use Baltek end-grain balsa to optimize hull stiffness and
strength, add a big Merc (over 200 horse) and his special touches and sell them at an affordable price. Lloyd recognized a winner in 1971 and the relationship between the man and the boat company has been a winner for both of them ever since.

Yes, we are also Mercury dealers and Lloyd knowledge as a certified master Mercury mechanic has been passed down to the next generation.

Award wining sales and full service, a great product and an enthusiasm that has lasted for over 30 years – the full package here at Lloyd’s Inland Marine.

Lloyd’s spirit is still alive here and we are still working full time on boats and motors.  We have a world of knowledge and experience and can usually fix any motor or boat that has a problem. Lloyd wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. When you see the Baja on the Ohio, chances are it came from Lloyd’s Marine. Come see us at Lloyd’s Marine.
